Kilimanjaro Routes

The 8 day Lemosho route is a firm favourite of ours. It's a beautiful route, crossing varied landscapes and terrains over 70km and nearly 4000m of elevation. This longer route to the summit not only gives you the best chance of summiting, as there is plenty of chance to acclimatise to the altitude, but also the best views and quietest trails at a pace at which you can enjoy the experience. You'll begin at the Lemosho Gate at 2250m elevation, in the heart of the rainforest. The trail will take you through true rainforest, cloud forest, moorlands, scrubland plateau, volcanic landscapes, alpine deserts and the snowy peaks of the very Roof of Africa at 5895m. It's challenging, but with a near 98.9% success rate, the Lemosho route is our top choice for getting the most out of your expedition. Every aspect of your expedition has been designed to give you the best possible chance of reaching the summit. At our Legend campsite each morning you will wake gently to the team bringing you a hot drink to your tent. Each night you’ll be kicking back, resting and recovering in luxury stand-up tents, with proper cot beds, mattresses and pillows to ensure an all important restful nights sleep, setting you up for the days ahead. We provide private toilets, hot showers and hand washing stations to ensure your hygiene through the climb, removing the risk of illness and making sure you’re fresh and comfortable throughout. Oxygen and wellness checks are carried out daily by our experienced guides to monitor your acclimatisation and ensure total safety. Meals are served in our heated mess tent, with gourmet dishes prepared from fresh supplies by our Legend chefs and served proudly by waiters. Our food is resupplied during the expedition, so you will always have high quality, delicious and fresh meals to keep up your energy for the task ahead. On summit day you will benefit from a one-to-one guide ratio within your group, meaning you will have your own personal Legend team member supporting your progress and letting you set your own pace if you need, all the way to Uhuru Peak. Oxygen is carried to provide an additional layer of safety and care, along with the many precautions we will have already taken to prevent altitude related issues. That feeling of reaching the summit with your team after a long, hard climb through the night, with the sun rising all around you, and the enormity of your achievement hitting you, it really is something you will remember forever. Before and after the climb, you will relax in the comfort of a private, spacious room at the Maridadi Hotel, with views of the snowy peak you have (or will be about to!) conquered, giving you the perfect bookends to your adventure. With Legend Expeditions it isn’t just a trek. It’s the most success-focused, high quality, luxury, ethical and immersive way to experience Kilimanjaro, ensuring you will have your very own legend to tell for ever more.

Day 9 Descent (m) 4

This is a bold, compact ascent of Africa’s tallest peak, designed for those who are ready to commit. The 6-day Marangu Route moves faster than the longer itineraries, which means quicker altitude gain and less built-in acclimatisation time. That pace places more strain on your body, so success rates tend to settle around 80 – 87%. Despite its brisk profile, the path itself is generous - wide and gradual for much of the climb, giving you a smooth transition through the mountain’s changing ecosystems. And we elevate the experience further by using the brand new private huts, offering dedicated accommodation for your group with real beds, private facilities and full shelter from the weather. You’ll push hard on summit night: the final leg is a steep 1,195 m climb in just 6-7 hours via Gilman’s Point, from where you march toward the famous Uhuru Peak sunrise. We staff the ascent with 1:1 summit guides, daily oxygen saturation checks, and our full support network - so you’re not just climbing, you’re doing so with intention and purpose. Meanwhile, we look after the crew behind the scenes too. Our guides and porters are exceptionally treated, with high pay and real investment in their wellbeing - because your success depends on theirs. Fresh, high-quality food is served throughout the trek, refuelling you and lifting morale when the going gets tough. If you’re ready for a fast-tracked challenge, delivered with the highest level of logistics, safety and comfort - this is how you make your story.
