Safari FAQs
It depends on four things: how many days you go for, the time of year, the style of lodge or camp, and which parks you visit. Park and conservation fees in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro make up a large part of the cost, so routes matter. We design safaris across every tier, from classic tented camps to luxury lodges. Tell us your budget in the builder above and we will design around it rather than upsell you.
June to October is the dry season: animals gather around water, the bush thins out and game viewing is excellent. July to October is also when the Great Migration crosses the Mara River in the northern Serengeti. January to February is calving season in the southern Serengeti around Ndutu, with huge herds and lots of predator action. April and May bring the long rains: it is quieter and better value, though some camps close.
For July to September and the Christmas period, six to twelve months ahead is ideal, especially if you want a camp near the Mara River crossings. Outside peak season a few months is usually plenty, and we can often arrange shorter-notice trips too. Send us your dates and we will tell you honestly what is still available.
Yes, and most of our travellers do. A safari after a Kilimanjaro climb is the perfect way to rest your legs, and a few days on Zanzibar makes a relaxed finish. We handle the transfers, accommodation and internal flights between them so it runs as one seamless trip.
Typically a private 4x4 safari vehicle with a pop-up roof, your own professional guide, park and conservation fees, accommodation and meals as set out in your itinerary, airport transfers and drinking water on game drives. International flights, visas, travel insurance and tips are not included. Your itinerary will spell out exactly what is covered before you pay anything.
Absolutely. A private vehicle means you set the pace, so we plan shorter game drives, family rooms and lodges with pools and space to run around. Some camps and walking activities have minimum ages, which we check for you when we design the trip. Add your children's ages in the builder and we will plan around them.
