Overview
Materuni is a Chagga village on Kilimanjaro's southern slopes. This half-day trip pairs a hands-on coffee tour, where you pick, roast and grind your own beans the traditional way, with a gentle 40-minute hike down through farmland to the base of Materuni Falls, where you can swim in the plunge pool.
It's one of our most booked add-ons for climbers with a spare day either side of Kilimanjaro, and it works just as well as a standalone day out from Moshi or Arusha.

Collection from your Moshi hotel for the drive to Materuni village, around 30 to 45 minutes each way.

Hike to the falls
A guided 40 to 50 minute walk down through coffee and banana shambas to the base of Materuni Falls.

Swim and relax
Free time to swim in the plunge pool and take in the waterfall before the walk back up.

Coffee tour and lunch
A hands-on tour through a Chagga homestead, picking, roasting, pounding and brewing your own cup, followed by a traditional Chagga lunch.
