Jack Fleckney

Founder

Jack Fleckney, a former Royal Marine Commando and expedition guide, is an expert Kilimanjaro expedition leader with a passion for Africa’s wild landscapes.

Fluent in Swahili and a specialist in African adventures, Jack founded Legend Expeditions and has guided numerous trekkers to Kilimanjaro’s Uhuru Peak.

His extraordinary feats include setting a world record in the 24-hour SkiErg (283,131m), running across the Sahara desert, rowing across the Atlantic Ocean and kayaking the length of the world’s most dangerous swamp, raising over £400,000 for charity through these challenges.

Jackson Masanja

Co-founder (Legend Tanzania)

Jackson was born in the central part of Tanzania, Singida, in 1986. He began his education journey in Arusha, where he completed both primary and secondary school before pursuing a Certificate in Tourism.

With over fifteen years of hands-on experience in the tourism industry, Jackson is a seasoned mountain and safari expert who has worked extensively on Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru, and Mount Oldoinyo Lengai. His career in tourism began humbly as a porter, steadily rising through the ranks to become a camp manager and ultimately a professional mountain and safari guide.

Jackson’s unmatched passion and deep knowledge of Tanzania’s landscapes have enabled him to successfully guide thousands of adventurers, with more than 100 successful summits under his belt. He also specializes in organizing unforgettable wildlife safaris and beach holidays across Tanzania, combining adventure, nature, and cultural experiences.

Today, Jackson continues to inspire and lead travelers from around the world, offering safe, personalised, and unforgettable experiences across Tanzania’s mountains, national parks, and coastal regions.

Kilimanjaro Guide

Nelson is a dedicated and experienced mountain professional with over 12 years in the tourism and trekking industry.

He began his career as a porter, gaining invaluable knowledge of mountain terrain and the needs of climbers over seven years. Driven by passion and perseverance, he advanced to become a licensed mountain guide and has spent the past five years successfully leading treks.

Nelson is highly skilled and intimately familiar with all official routes on both Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru. He has guided numerous local and international climbers to the summit, ensuring their safety, success, and unforgettable mountain experiences.

  • 2009

    Royal Marines Training

    Jack at the age of 18 signed up to take on the longest Military training in the World

    He turned up at Lympstone with a dream of becoming a Royal Marines Commando.

  • 2011-2014

    Royal Navy Rugby and Combined Services

    5 Years later he had visited over 20 different countries, won fittest in the Military and represented the Royal Navy and Combined Services at Rugby and completed a deployment to Afghanistan.

  • 2015

    Founded ShireFit

    Jack founds his first functional fitness space, ShireFit, after numerous setbacks.

    It grows to multiple locations, helping thousands.

  • 2017-2022

    Fitness World Records & Challenges

    Jack pushes physical boundaries with 24-hour challenges: pull-ups, ski erg, rope climbs, burpees, and more. Jack raised over £250,000 for charity.

  • 2020

    Global Climbing Adventures

    Jack’s passion for mountains leads him to climb in the Alps, Morocco, and Nepal, building the foundation for global expedition leadership.

  • 2021

    Marathon Des Sables

    Jack completes the Marathon des Sables, the “toughest footrace on Earth,” enduring extreme heat and illness over 250 km in the Sahara.

  • 2022

    Africa Expedition

    Jack embarks on an ambitious solo journey: crossing Hwange National Park on foot and bike, climbing baobab trees in Zambia, and kayaking the Okavango Delta.

  • 2022

    Expeditions in Borneo and Nepal

    Leads groups through Borneo’s jungles and Nepal’s Himalayas, deepening his skills and passion for leading transformational experiences.

    Safari & Wildlife Training

    Completes FGASA Safari Guide theory and birding courses, building expertise in African ecosystems.

    Atlantic Row

    Alongside three friends, Jack rows self-sufficiently across the Atlantic Ocean. It was here where the seed of Legend Expeditions is planted.

    Learns Swahili

    Driven to connect with local Tanzanian teams, Jack begins learning Swahili and immerses himself in Tanzanian culture.

    Inspired mid-ocean, Jack launches Legend to help others “create their legend.”

    First Expeditions: Iceland & Kilimanjaro

    Jack scouts a cycling route through Iceland's tectonic rift and leads early Kilimanjaro climbs, testing what will become Legend’s signature journeys.

    Building the Mountain Team

    Jack partners with Jackson in Tanzania, focusing on every detail from gear, food and safety, all to become the best Kilimanjaro operator on the mountain and offer the highest summit success rate.

    Investing in Tanzania

    Jack deepens his connection to Tanzania, beginning plans to build a home near Kilimanjaro with his wife and launching a charitable foundation to support local porters and their families.
