The world’s greatest wildlife amphitheatre.
A collapsed volcano around 2,000 ft deep and 12 miles across, with an entire ecosystem living on its floor. Lion, elephant, buffalo and hippo are all there, and it’s one of the best places in Tanzania to see black rhino. For clients short on time, it delivers the most wildlife in a single day.
How we run it: an early descent to the crater floor to beat the crowds, with lunch by the hippo pool. It’s most often combined with Tarangire for a 2-day safari, or used as the gateway on the drive into the Serengeti.
